REDD+ and FLEGT: building synergies
In many tropical countries there is active engagement with both REDD+ and FLEGT. This provides an opportunity to build on the interactions between the two processes and make better progress on delivering the objectives of both. Increased cooperation between REDD+ and FLEGT at the national level could advance forest and land-use governance reforms, clarify land tenure, strengthen stakeholder engagement, increase transparency and balance competing interests. Stakeholders involved in these governance reforms and change processes could consider opportunities and incentives provided by REDD+ and FLEGT to achieve their objectives.
The EU FLEGT Action Plan also provides lessons for addressing consumption and production of agricultural commodities driving deforestation.
