New policy briefs on implementing REDD+ in Vietnam

Five new policy briefs examine synergies between FLEGT and REDD+ in implementing forest governance processes at local level in Vietnam. The international conservation organisation Fauna and Flora International (FFI) produced the policy briefs with support from the EU REDD Facility.

In developing the policy briefs, FFI drew on experiences of agencies involved in piloting REDD+ at subnational level shared at a national workshop co-organised by FFI and the Vietnam REDD+ Office. FFI shared experiences and lessons learnt from the EU-supported Community Carbon Pools REDD+ pilot project in Kon Tum province, Central Highlands. Other agencies that shared experiences included Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Quang Binh province, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Dien Bien province and the Centre of Research and Development in Upland Areas (CERDA) in Thai Nguyen province.

The SNV Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV) contributed perspectives on a national approach to REDD+ safeguards. Covering issues such as forest governance, transparency, participation and environmental integrity, REDD+ safeguards offer opportunities for realising synergies between FLEGT and REDD+ to improve forest governance.
